I said before that I loved summer, but I really love FALL.
Mississippi is literally the strangest place I have ever lived. (I’ve only lived in Iowa, Colorado and Mississippi, but still!) On the front porch, as I type, I have pumpkins, a fall wreath AND hanging baskets with flowers that are still blooming. It’s October 20th and all my summer flowers are still kickin’. Actually, they look the best they’ve ever looked since it’s not sweltering hot anymore. I love it, and yet it’s really messing with me. I’m just not used to 90 degree weather in the middle of October.
So, what have we been up to? We’ve been BUSY. Alex is running long days. He had his first solo in the T-38 and it went really well. He’s got the need…the need…for speed.
I’m still doing the grad school thing. I’ve made it through my first round of midterms and I suppose it wasn’t all that bad. It’s a lot of work and it is making me realize how much I do know, and a friendly reminder of what I don’t know. Well, you can’t know everything. Then God would be out of a job, wouldn’t He? I don’t have any cool pictures of me in grad school. But I do have this sweet picture of me as a banana. I guess it will suffice.
We both celebrated birthdays in this awesome month of October. Another year older, another year wiser, or something like that. Alex made it to 24 years old and I’m now 23 years young. Ha…I always say that my birthday hurts less because I’m already used to him being that age. I love my birthday. It is the time of year that the leaves always turn their beautiful colors. Except in MS they just die and fall off…so, that’s sad. Nothing can ruin my day on my birthday. Since the only ages I have to look forward to are 25 (lower car insurance premiums) and 62 (hopefully sooner), I’ve realized that I still get excited about my birthday. I hope that never changes.
We went to the Little Rock air show over Columbus Day weekend. The Thunderbirds performed and I got to see the ground crew in their adorable pants. I don’t know how they do it, they put on an awesome air show and they wear pants that put on a good show, too – if you know what I mean. I’ve never seen better looking tushes.
Little Rock AFB is a C-130 base. They had a mass combat drop out of 9 C-130s, which was cool to see, until they all landed in the trees on the other side of the runway. Woopsie daisies. It took them about an hour to pick them all out of the trees but no one was hurt, fortunately.
I won’t go into great detail on the rest of the awesome airplanes…but I’ll show you the pictures. Since that’s probably all you care about anyway…isn’t it? Sheesh, that’s rude. 🙂
C-5 or FRED:(F-word)in’ Ridiculous Economic Disaster was there on static. It’s huuuuuge.
AV-8 Harrier – Marine aircraft that is capable of vertical take offs and landings. Very awesome.
This was there, whatever IT is. Welcome to the south.
Heritage flight with a P-51 Mustang and A-10.
We ventured to downtown Little Rock and stumbled upon the Slick Willy – oh! I mean President Clinton Library. Sorry, that wasn’t nice. I don’t know what got into me. It was a really neat building. They had a replica of the cabinet room and the oval office. They even had a whole display just about how Gore invented the internet and how if it weren’t for Billy we wouldn’t have personal computers in our homes…oh nuts, there I go again! Well, thanks Bill…Mr. President…sir. Nevertheless, we’re glad we went there. It was cool to see and remember all the events of the 90s. It was like a walk down memory lane for us since most of it we remember growing up. Actually, it reminded me a lot of VH1’s I Love the 90s…
There is a story to this picture. I realized at the very moment the picture was taken that I somehow let Alex sit in the President’s chair and I (willingly) in the VP chair. I don’t know why I let that happen, and my face says it all. That’s Mrs. President, to you.
That’s pretty much life as we know it up to this point. I’m headed to Iowa for the weekend for my cousin Katie’s bridal shower. It is bound to be an awesome time will all the Mourlam ladies – I love my family!! So you can count on another blog soon!
Have a great day and y’all come back!
