I updated the blog through 2011. That was quite a chore. Check it out below if you haven’t already. It’s mostly just pictures because pictures are worth a ton of words and I’m really bad at telling stories…I tend to make them at least 25 times longer.
So, what’s new? Well…we’re still in Mississippi. Alex is still in pilot training. He flies the pointy and fast jet. I’m still in grad school…taking classes and researching aircraft icing. I had an end of the year shin-dig with EADS-IW from Germany (the company funding me and my research) and I had to give a presentation. It went really well. I got a little more definition on what I’ll write my thesis on, so I’m really excited about that. My project is really starting to come together.
Alex brought home a VIPOP (Very Important Piece Of Paper) the other day. It’s the greatly anticipated DREAM SHEET!! On this sheet, he ranks what plane he wants to fly and where he wants to go. And by he, I mean we…cause we’re two peas in a pod…cute, right? Ha! 🙂 We’re starting to research planes and bases. I always knew this day was coming, but it didn’t hit me until he brought the sheet home. This is the real deal Air Force. After all these years of USAFA and UPT, this is what we’ve been waiting for! We haven’t filled it out yet, but we’re really hoping he gets First Assignment Instructor Pilot (FAIP) so he can stay in Columbus while I finish my masters. It would give him more flying hours in the T-38 or T-6. To refresh your memory…
Both are very cool planes, and he would enjoy being an instructor pilot in either. After FAIP, we really don’t know what is next. England? Hawaii? Paradise? Hmm…think, think, think… Assignment night is 25 Feb and graduation is 11 Mar. So stay tuned!
Great news. We are super excited because Columbus got a THAI RESTAURANT! It’s not nearly as good as the place we loved in Colorado Springs, but it beats having to drive an hour to Tuscaloosa to get Thai food. With the Thai place, all the awesome BBQ places, an out of this world burger joint, and an awesome steakhouse where you can wear your sweatpants, I really can’t complain about living in the dirty south. But I’m no Mississippi Queen, mind you.
Did you make a resolution for 2011? Well, I didn’t. I don’t like the concept of resolutions. Goals are so much better and usually more achievable. But I think it will be a good year. Who is excited? I am. I did set a few goals: run my best 5k ever, run a 10k, climb Pike’s Peak or a 14er (which means a trip to Colorado Springs…oh, darn), buy more shoes (is that wrong?), and BLOG more frequently.
Blah, blah, blah…well, this blog is terribly boring, so I feel like this would be a good place to apologize and stop writing. Plus, I’m going to need some coffee if I’m going to make it through my class this afternoon…better get a move on. Peace out, dudes.
Have a great day and y’all come back!
