It is still June for a few more days! How wonderful! I wasn’t ready for July, not just yet.
Here are the promised pictures from the USS Alabama battleship, the USS Drum submarine, and a few from the aircraft hangar. This was all in Mobile, Alabama. It was worth stopping, fo sho.
We went to see the gun show. Literally. The USS Alabama was a battleship, so guns the word. There were even body builders walking around the ship showing off their guns…heh heh, I kid. Seriously, though, I took a picture of what the plaque said so I could share with you.
16 inch 45 caliber turrets that can hurl 24,300 lbs. of steel at the enemy ever 30 seconds to a range of 21 miles. The turret extends 5 decks down and is protected with 18 inch armor on the front face and 17 to 11 inches all the way down. 140 men are required to man a turret.
Pretty interesting, huh? Can you imagine the recoil when those babies were firing?!
Anchor chain…massive anchor chain.
Oh goody. Stadders. My favorite.
AF is like totally way better than the Navy.
USS Drum, submarine.
The pilot didn’t fit in the sub very well, in fact, he bonked his nugget several times.
I guess he prefers the small office space of the Viper instead.
There were way too many knobs and switches on this thing.
I found a Viper! I thought it was appropriate that the Iowa flag hung directly about the F-16.
What are you up to today? It is a gorgeous morning here, but it is going to be a hot one. I think I’d probably better mow the lawn at some point before it gets too hot. I also need to throw together a quick paper for another class I’m taking in July, and a presentation, and actually, come to think of it, I have another presentation to put together, too. But none of those are due tomorrow, so I think I’ll wait. Pro-cras-tin-ation.
I think I’d much rather go wander around Tuesday Morning for a while instead, or with 40% off everything at ATL, maybe I’ll do some online shopping. Or, I could zip over to T-loosa and do some real shopping…see what it is like inside my head? One little idea turns into a day trip. How about that.
I made some vegan whole wheat chocolate cinnamon cupcakes with cinnamon buttercream and candied walnuts. They are ahhh-mazing. Even the Pilot liked them, and he knew they were healthy as he was taking his first bite. So I must share this recipe. I’ll be back (said in my best Arnold voice) later today!
