So here’s a great way to start your day. I wake up early (without an alarm) all excited because “TODAY IS THE DAY!” The day I leave for Europe, that is. And yes, at 6:06 am this morning, I was ready. Finally. Bloody brilliant. Last night, I was not ready. Packing was more work than I expected.
I packed. –>60 pounds
…
I repacked. Two bags –> 34 pounds and 50 pounds
…
I repacked again. –> 34 pounds and 42 pounds
…
Then I cleaned out the fridge, ate the rest of the peach dessert that I made because I refused to let it go to waste, took a shower, unplugged the TVs and stuff, and laid in bed trying to sleep. I was just too excited to sleep.
So this morning, I drove to the airport, albeit bleary eyed and yawning. Who cares? I have a 10 hour flight to snooze away on. I’ll wake up when I land in London. 🙂
I got the airport, checked in, paid for my suitcases, and then they stopped me right as I was handing over my checked bags.
“Are you Emily?”
“Uh, yeah.”
“You’re flight is cancelled.”
“Uhhm. Excuse me?”
I was cool on the outside, but turning an angry red inside. Really. My flight is cancelled. How kind of you to tell me. Would you like to tell me the rest? You know, the part about how you fixed it and got me on another flight?
Well, she didn’t get me another flight but the nice gentlemen next to her took pity on my apparently rather distraught face (my gaping mouth, large eyes, I dunno what gave it away). And they refunded me for my checked bags. <– best part.
So I’ve been sitting here in the terminal chatting with this very lovely lady who is travelling to her granddaughter’s wedding. I absolutely love the people you meet in airports. I love to talk to people and finding out what they do, where they’re from, where they’re going, what they know, etc. I guess you could say I’m that person some people don’t want to sit by on the plane because I’ll chat their ear off.
Nevertheless, the cancellation/change of flights only set me back by about an hour. So it’s all good.
Let the adventure begin! Next time you’ll hear from me I’ll be in the UK! I can’t wait!
Cheers!
