HAPPY EASTER!!
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead … 1 Peter 1:3
How is your Easter so far? It’s a beautiful day here! We’re celebrating Easter with a lazy day in. We are usually so busy running errands and such, that we never get time for just us. It is the Viper Pilot’s mother’s birthday!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY to her!! He’s on the phone with her, so I thought I’d get everyone up to date with the latest happenings.
My drive here from MS was rather…eventful. Check out the nasty storm I got stuck in…
I rode the storm out. Then I got stuck in lovely Houston traffic…that never happens. <– sarcasm
I collected a few bugs along the way… |
Once we finally got here, it was good. Elle was incredibly happy to be at her other house and did a complete perimeter check of the yard to make sure everything met her standards. The Viper Pilot is still on night weeks, so he didn’t get home until 2 am, but boy was she excited to see him! The next day, I spent with my friend Kassie, another Viper Pilot spouse. We had an incredibly fun day of shopping, chatting, and eating cheesecake!
Once it got dark, we went out to the squadron to watch our boys fly!! If you ever get the opportunity to see an F-16 take-off, don’t miss it!! It was an adrenaline rush watching it and knowing that it was my man flying made it all the more awesome! I may or may not have blown him a kiss as he zoomed by! I did snap a few pictures, but I was less than prepared with my camera so they aren’t the greatest quality. The first picture is of Dustin (Kassie’s Viper Pilot) and the second picture is my Viper Pilot.
Very cool, right? I love him and I love his job. Sometimes I get jealous of the other girl in his life (the jet), but then, I’ve got nothing on her. She’s pretty stinking awesome. 🙂
After watching them take off, another spouse joined us and the three of us went out to our house to hang out until the boys got done. The boys joined us around midnight (which on a night week schedule is like dinner time) and we socialized until the wee hours of the morning. Night week schedules are so crazy!
Kassie brought her pup with her. He is a little yorkie named Russell. Elmer made a new friend!
Last night was Easter Vigil. It is probably one of my favorite masses the Catholic church celebrates. It is usually a longer mass, but it is very beautiful. Back in the day, two of my very best friends (Erin and Bridget, also bridesmaids in my wedding, yay!) and I used to do a choral reading for the Easter Vigil mass as the readings (there are normally 6 readings and a gospel reading on Easter Vigil) at our home church. It was beautiful and every Holy Saturday since reminds me of those days. But who knows, maybe someday we will get the opportunity to do it again! I think I still have a copy of the script at my parents’ house! I know I wouldn’t have to ask Erin and Bridget twice… 🙂
Guess what else happened on Easter Vigil? I give you the church’s newest member: the Viper Pilot! After several weeks of RCIA and learning about the faith, he has been confirmed! I am so proud of him. This journey of him joining the church has been one of the best things for him and for our relationship. I am very proud of him!
After church was over, we met up with friends (another Viper Pilot and his wife) and went downtown to our favorite place, SoHo, an incredibly awesome martini bar. The bartender remembered me from the last time I was there. He made up a new drink just for me and my friend Kristin the last time and he even let us name it (The Elmer, of course) and he remembered that, too! You got to love great customer service!! When he asked me what I wanted last night, I didn’t hesitate for a second to say something chocolatey!! I gave up chocolate for lent, but after mass, our Lenten season was officially over. This was his concoction…it was happiness in a cup. It was yummy.
We had a great time chatting with Stephen and Helen. They have a sweet, beautiful baby girl, Caroline (who stayed home grandma and grandpa last night) and they will all be coming to Germany with us in July! We had so much fun planning birthdays and day trips last night! 🙂
So, that brings me back to today. I just took the breakfast pizza out of the oven and we’re going to lounge around watching Burn Notice or NCIS.
I am being festive and keeping my tootsies warm at the same time. <– best part.
I think we’re also going to try to sneak in a movie…THE HUNGER GAMES!!…this afternoon. I’ve only read the book three times so I’m really really excited to see the movie! I just hope it’s not too bloody or violent. I hate that in movies. I’ll give you my review of it later.
Have a Happy Easter, everyone!
…and don’t forget the reason for the season.
Bridget says
Em, you look GORGEOUS!! you're beautiful and those shoes are rocking. love the pop of yellow, too!
SO many people commented at church that they missed the readings and every time "chariots" was said they all thought CHARIOTS AND CHARIOTEERS 🙂
