That’d be me. The post below has been written for several days now, but I have a confession. I ran out of free picture storage space and was too stubborn to pay to share my pictures with you. But I have now purchased additional storage space (it wasn’t easy because it was all in German and my German isn’t that good yet). But I’m back now. You know I’m always here for ya…I would never go away forever. 😉
Hi readers! How are you? In Germany, you ask “wie gehts” when you actually want to know how a person is. It’s not a greeting like in the states when we say, “Hey, what’s up!” So, really, wie gehts?
We are most definitely getting spoiled by this weather. I am pretty sure it is supposed to cool and overcast/rainy. It has been clear, sunny, and almost hot. So we’re taking full advantage of it because when it is -20 degrees and it’s snowing, I may not be such a happy camper. The days are longer here compared to what we are used to. The longest day of the year has obviously come and gone, but today the sun rose at 0622 and will set at 2052. That’s an extra hour of sunlight than Iowa. Which doesn’t seem like that much, but when you take the pooch outside before going to bed at 11 at night and you can see light from the setting sun, it is really weird. We’ve been told that the days are really short in the winter. That should be fun…and not depressing at all…
Speaking in terms of latitude, to put it in perspective, we are in line with Alberta, Canada. Nice, eh?

Last weekend was a lot of fun. Friday evening we joined our friends at their new, albeit an empty, fantastic new house. I guess it becomes really real when you have a place to call home! They found a new house in a little village close to the base with lots of space for their little one to crawl around. Their household goods have not arrived yet, but fortunately the AF has given them a “house kit” so they have somewhere to sleep and a place to sit. We sipped a local beer on the patio and chatted well into the evening. Saturday night, another couple from the squadron invited us over to their house for dinner. They had a baby about 6 weeks ago and she’s beautiful and incredibly sweet. The food and beer was good, as was the company.
We took the hound for a walk around the neighborhood on Sunday. She loves the weather.
I NEED YOUR HELP!
The Viper Pilot and I are so excited for our European traveling adventures, but we are absolutely overwhelmed. There are so many great places and we have no clue where to even start. But we’d love to hear it from our friends and family who have “been there and done that.” At our open house, we had so many people tell us “go here!” and “you have to do this!” but unfortunately, we’ve forgotten. We know that you have a lot of great ideas and we want to hear them!! If you have any traveling advice or suggestions of a tried and true getaway (big city or little known secret) that you absolutely loved while you were either vacationing in Europe, or stationed here like we are, share it in the comments below. If you haven’t been to Europe or don’t have any suggestions, say hi. Wie gehts? 🙂
I’d love to get a few more comments on the blog. It not only gives me an idea of who is out there, but it is a great way to hear feedback from you! I think the record number of comments on a post is 3, so let’s break that! You can do it! 🙂 Bitte und danke.

Yay! You are back! I look forward to reading your blogs. I have no idea of the distance, but Kris suggested Amstelveen (North of Amsterdam). It is a Bed & Breakfast on a cheese farm with ties to Anne Franke. He also suggested General Patten's grave in Luxemburg City. Another is Kuekenhoff Garden, Spring Tulip time. He mentioned some tapestry at Bayaux. There is Omaha Beach in Normandy, too. I'll bet he has many more great suggestions!

Hey! I religiously read your blog! I'm not sure if you plan on venturing to Rome – but if you do, there's an amazing restaurant near the spanish steps that has to-die-for ravioli (as well as everything else on their menu). I have the name of the place written down in the journal I kept from my study abroad trip, so let me know if you want it! Can't wait to visit you guys at some point! Love and miss you SO MUCH!!!
