Now THIS is a caramel macchiato.
We drove around all over the area house hunting. We saw a lot of interesting houses and drove through several little villages. Each one is quaint and quirky in their own unique way. Many have little American touches, like this Ford sign painted on a building. It reminds me of my dadoo and of home.
I’ll let you in on a little secret…we may have found something. But I am not going to tell you about anything until it is official. I really hope it works out — it’s an amazing place and I want so badly to call it home.
I stocked our little kitchen to the best of my ability with what our (not so) awesome commissary on base has. Lots of fruits and veggies — anythings fresh. The grapes are from Spain, the strawberries are locally grown here in Germany as is a lot of the other produce. They don’t use the word “organic” in Germany because they don’t need to. Almost everything is organic. Their cows don’t get any added hormones so the milk is natural and organic. Contrary to common belief, the milk in Germany is pasteurized. I think they pasteurize it at a different temperature, so it is much creamier. I’m not a dairy farmer so I don’t really know what I’m talking about… Moo…
Last night I finally caved and made a meal. A real one. Cooking is tough in this kitchen. There is hardly any counter space and we don’t have a dishwasher. So I was looking for something that would be quick, easy with little preparation, little mess to clean up, and of course, nutritious. I give you, stir-fry.
I would normally mix up my own stir-fry sauce but with the lack of cupboard space to store bottles of various sauces and spices, I used a bottled pre-made stir-fry sauce and added a spoonful or two of peanut butter while it was simmering. It smelled so wonderful. Food that feeds the senses.
Side note: I bought the baby corn fresh, not canned. I was so excited.
I served it over brown rice. It was deliciously wonderful.
After dinner, we sipped on some crisp white wine and watched a few episodes of NCIS before calling it an early night.
Hope everyone is having a good week so far!
Tschüss!

Sounds like you're enjoyoing the Fatherland! I'm glad.
Try some Radler for me, that sounds good right about now.
Let me know if you ever have questions about anything that seems strange,
I've gotten relatively good at explaining cultural differences between
Americans and Germans by now 😉
Prost!
