With the Viper Pilot getting home late this past week, I’ve had lots of time to sit and think about things. Just for the fun of it, today I jotted them down as they occurred in my cranium. These were the winners.
Random #1: Sometimes I forget to stop and enjoy my surroundings.
My drive to work today was much too beautiful. I couldn’t resist the temptation so I stopped at the rest stop along the Autobahn to take a picture. Conveniently, I had my camera with me in the car. Me, taking my camera everywhere I go? Imagine that. Then I realized, this is what most mornings look like every day (except when it is so foggy you can’t see squat). Have I really lived here for two months and not stopped to smell the roses yet?? Living in Germany hasn’t lost its sparkle. It’s still shiny and new-to-me. Every day I see, enjoy, and experience something new. But I drive the same route to work everyday, and I guess I just get so caught up in what I need to get done at work that I forget to enjoy the scenery.
Random #2: Clouds are so cool.
I had to turn around at one of the exits to go back and stop in the same place to take another picture on my way home from work. The sky was as equally beautiful this afternoon as it was in the morning, but it tells a whole different story. When I got home and looked at the picture, I noticed that the clouds and blue sky steal the show in this one.
Random #3: Why can’t floo powder be real?
My nephews sent me “hugs” from Iowa for my birthday. I laughed because, “how cute is this?” and then I cried. I really miss my family.
Random #4: {As I’m tying this blog post…} Elle fell down the stairs…again.
Elle can’t handle the stairs in this house. She has only lived in one other house with stairs (in Colorado) and they were carpeted stairs so it was no problem. The stairs in this house are wood. She will sit at the top and ponder the idea for a while before attempting to go down. Sometimes she does just fine. But at least once a day she slips and tumbles down them. You can hear her scrambling and her nails on the wood as she tries to regain her balance. Then she goes and pouts on her pillow. I feel bad for her, I really do, but I can’t. stop. laughing.
Random #5: I wish I had a Toblerone.
This contraption was in the chocolate museum in Cologne and the caption said that it was used to package Toblerone chocolate bars. I love me some Toblerone. Ever since I saw this thing, I can’t stop wondering how the heck it works…I guess that’s the enginerd in me.
Random #5: Do subliminal messages work give me money?
I read an article on this today and discovered this video.
Random #6: What’s the grossest sounding word in our language?
I’m not trying to be rude, but there are some ugly sounding words in the native language here. I don’t know what any of them mean, nor do I have any clue how to spell most of them for you. I do giggle every time the lady on the radio tells me to have a “gute Fahrt…” I’m still not over the fact that fahrt means trip and is not what it sounds like in the English language… But I got to thinking about the English language and tried to think of some of the gross/weird sounding words that we use regularly. I think a lot of people would vote “moist” as the grossest word and I concur. But definitions of words aside, if you ask me, I think “pork” is a gross sounding word. Really, just say it out loud a few times to yourself.
Random #7: Little cars are funny.
They tow horse trailers and campers with tiny little cars in Germany. I wonder what they think of our F-350s, horse trailers, and RVs…
Random #8: Nested glass mixing bowls are the bomb-diggity.
When I cook or bake, I measure out all the ingredients I need in these wonderful bowls before hand. It makes things a million times easier to just grab the ingredient and dump it in. I’m always looking for an excuse to use the littlest one, which I have found to be very accommodating for pure vanilla extract. Don’t wait until you get married to get these bowls.
Alright, enough random thoughts. Check back tomorrow for an “Air Force life” post. Happy Thursday, everyone!
PROST!
Let’s get some comments going up in here. In your opinion, what is the grossest/weirdest sounding word in the English language? Make no reference to the definition — we all know bodily function words are gross — I’m talking about phonetics. Share your thoughts by click on “comments” below!

After a long week of work, this post made me laugh out loud!!! I love hearing all your thoughts throughout the day – definitely makes the distance between Germany and Pennsylvania seem a little smaller!
