When I asked my sister if she would fill in for me write about her weight loss experience on the blog, I was giddy with joy when she agreed. Hearing others’ success stories is so motivating! Here’s her story.
Greetings from Iowa!
I am Angie, Emily’s big sis ( 40 in May, yikes). I am writing today about the weight loss, exercise journey I am on. 🙂 I think I have joined Weight Watchers and succeeded then gained it back and then started the process over again more than anyone I know! Not through any fault of Weight Watchers, I love the program – it works! But because of my love of overeating and lack of exercise. So I decided to join yet one more time and keep it off this time!
In January, my cousin Meridith called and asked me to join Farrell’s with her. For those who don’t know, it’s an Extreme Bodyshaping kickboxing class. It is 6 days a week and a 10 week program.
Two days prior to starting classes, I started walking on the treadmill because I was too out of shape to run, a mile a day. The first day was a Saturday, bright and early at 7:30 am! I was scared, but I had overwhelming support from my family and friends! We got there and they issued us our gloves and wraps.
🙂
Right away, they weighed us, then we proceeded to the restrooms for our “before” picture which had to be taken in our bra and shorts (or bikini, which I haven’t owned since high school). We continued by doing a step test, sit-up and push-up test then a dreaded mile run!!! Outside! It was freezing! I finished my mile in 14:35…and I nearly passed out after! We would then repeat these tests at 5 and 10 weeks!! Monday would be our first kickboxing class…I had no idea what to expect. (It turns out I love it!)
My tips to sticking to it:
- I followed Weight Watchers and drank 8 bottles of water a day!
- Switched to whole grain and leaner meats.
- When I felt the urge to snack, I kept a few handy in my purse (ie, Baby Bell cheese and crisp bread).
- WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN! You may not realize just how much or little you eat in a day.
- Tracking is key.
