Hi friends, how are you?
– We left Brugge on Sunday and before heading back south and east, we drove up to Blankenberge so my mom could see the North Sea. It was chilly, only about 50 degrees, but beautiful as always.
All but one made it into his care package. 😉
– I finally got around to putting together a care package for the Viper Pilot (it’s been a while, but he gets so much stuff from other people, there isn’t much he needs/wants from me). I sent him all of his favorites, but I included something a little more homemade…
Can ya tell what they are? In honor of my craving and his recent promotion. |

– A few weeks ago, mama bird built a nest above my patio. The Viper Pilot told me to take it down because there would be a lot of bird droppings on the patio, but I said nope. Us mamas gotta stick together. She had FIVE babies in that nest. {I think I’ll stick with one at a time.} She crazy.
Wednesday morning I noticed at breakfast that there was only one lone ranger. Shortly after I snapped his picture, he flew away! That mama bird is now an empty nester.
– Wednesday was hot, hot, hot. A scorcher. Temps hit 90 and it was muggier than all get out. We don’t have air conditioning here, so it got a little rough. We tried not to complain too much since it has been so cold for so long. An afternoon outing to my favorite German castle, Burg Eltz, was just the ticket to enjoy the sunshine (and get in a workout sweating out the 1.3 km hike down and back up the valley).
– On our way back from the castle, we stopped for dinner outside at one of my favorite German restaurants.

– I won’t ever let my mom leave. She’s been such a tremendous help around the house and yard. I love my house and yard, but it is very high maintenance when you’re all by yourself. I’ve hired a couple of guys from the base to mow it (my lawnmower is still broken and it’s probably going to be too much work for me down the road, anyway) but she’s helped me weed my garden, kill weeds in the sidewalks and driveway, tie up the rosebushes that were falling over, trim bushes, replant a few things in my vegetable garden, trim the grapevines and put them up on their posts so they don’t hang so low (now we can walk under them without having to duck). There is no way I couldn’t have done all this without her!
Speaking of my vegetable garden, you should see it! Things are actually growing! (I know, I’m shocked too.)
Each afternoon, after finishing up working the yard, we enjoy the cool evening by dining out on the back patio. Which, I might add, is a much more pleasant experience now that mama bird isn’t scolding us for being so close to the nest.
– I finally got around to playing with the new lens the Viper Pilot and EWN (Elmer’s Worst Nightmare, aka the baby) gave me for Mother’s Day.
It’s already one of my favorite lenses. Nice bokeh, great in low light (without the cost of an f/1.4 lens), and incredibly lightweight. He done good! 🙂
– My mom made me dinner tonight. Isn’t she the best?! I am already starting to smell the aroma… It’s a meal with all the things I’m loving in this pregnancy: garlic, spice, vegetarian…
Drool…
PROST!
Camera friends, what is your favorite lens or piece of equipment that you just can’t do without?
