Bratwurst mit senf. Piping hot mugs of glühwein. A chill in the air. Christmas lights and decor here and there. People everywhere.
Owen was clearly excited about Santa coming to town. I can’t say I was thrilled to have a December baby (I personally would hate to have a birthday so close to Christmas) but then I see him in his little reindeer hat and I can’t handle it. The best Christmas ever…
The Viper Pilot had to take off his dad hat and be a pilot again for two days (he took a bunch of leave after Owen was born) so I took my parents to Bernkastel-Kues. It is right up the road from where we live and right along the Mosel River. The Viper Pilot and I went to this market last year and really enjoyed it. The market is really no different than any other, but the setting makes it so fun and unique. The traditional German architecture gets me every time. I have a million pictures of this village and I didn’t have an extra hand to take many this time. Hey now, pushing a stroller, sipping glühwein, and eating a brat takes a lot of coordination. The camera just wasn’t a part of the mix. Whoever said you need to grow two extra arms when you have a baby is right.
Has anyone ever said that? I don’t know. But I think it is true.
I warned my parents about how amazing the wine and brats were at the Christmas markets but I don’t think they ever fully understood my enthusiasm. My dad was, however, really anxious to try his first German brat (which is nothing like what you’d find in the states). They absolutely loved it.
We wandered the streets, saw the Roman gate, the churches, did some shopping, and enjoyed the pleasant evening filled with good food, good wine, and good company.
Our families have made their respective trips back home until next time. Teary goodbyes are the worst. I absolutely loved having them here not only to snuggle and love on Owen and help around the house, but we also enjoyed showing them around where we live.
I’m already encouraging them to plan their next trip. In the meantime, we’ll rely on Skype dates.
Today is my first day on my own with Owen. The Viper Pilot is back to work and is just starting an upgrade so his work schedule will be very busy (read: long 12+ hour days) plus lots of studying at home.
The Moby wrap was a gift. He absolutely LOVES it!! |
Things are going really well! I adore being Owen’s mama. I melt every time I see that beaming, toothless, just-for-me grin.
PROST!
