Well, this is embarrassing. We went to Oktoberfest back in September (most of the festival is actually held in September contrary to its name).
But before I get started, I want to explain that many of the pictures I have are really poor quality or from an iPhone. Oktoberfest is a little too crowded and wild for my Nikon.
THE Oktoberfest. The world’s largest and most famous beer festival held annually late September through the first weekend in October in Munich. You know the one.
We stayed in a hotel in a quiet part of town. It was an easy train ride to the city center. We’ve discovered the beauty of hotel rooms with a separate bedroom and living room. It’s a wonderful way to travel with a baby. Owen loved the floor to ceiling windows and playing peekaboo with the curtains.
We spent the first day (the nicer weather day) of our two day trip at the festival. We donned our traditional Bavarian outfits and followed our noses to the beer tents.
We met up with friends and started at the Paulaner tent. We got a table right by the lively band and had steins of frothy beer in our hands in a matter of seconds.
Goofball here certainly enjoyed his first Oktoberfest. I swear he only drank milk. 🙂 He loved the music, danced on the tables, smiled at all the people, and even flirted with a few pretty girls. But by the time we made it to the Augustiner tent, he was tuckered out.
Augustiner is our all-time favorite German beer so the tent was a must on our list. I didn’t let a baby sleeping on my lap stop me from enjoying my favorite beer.
We grabbed some brats and fries before heading back to the hotel to put the baby to bed. Once he was asleep, the Viper Pilot and I headed out to a fancy Greek restaurant down the street for some much needed us time. And good food, wine, and conversation.
While he was TDY to Greece back in August, he fell in love with these Greek iced coffees. I didn’t understand what the hype was all about until I had one after dinner that night. They are really good. So good that for his birthday, I bought him all the stuff he needs to make them at home and now we enjoy one almost every day.
I’ll try to get another post written this week to wrap up our Munich visit. I am truly sorry I’m so behind here. I’ll do my best to fill in the blank spots here in the next few weeks before Owen’s birthday. We’ve been busy!
Happy Monday! See you next time!
PROST!

How fun that you got to experience the real thing! We were in Munich is June for part of our honeymoon, and the city was really cool. We also ate at a Greek restaurant while we were there – funny! 🙂
