He has risen, indeed! Hoppy Easter, everybunny!
We celebrated Easter a little early due to Alex having to go TDY last week.
(Can I just say, TDYs are so much more awesome exhausting with two littles.)
Our squadron had an Easter party at the park on a misty Saturday morning complete with an egg hunt. Owen kind of got into it and had a lot of fun collecting plastic eggs without a care in the world what was inside. We’re enjoying that part as much as we can because that will change next year.
Owen went to bed really excited (rare) after setting out his and Della’s baskets. He had no idea what was happening but he knew there was something exciting coming. We couldn’t wait to see his reaction to the Easter Bunny’s surprises. Holidays are so much more fun with a toddler.
In Della’s basket: Jellycat bunny rattle, Little Standout camera teether, Teeny Tiny T glazed donut headband, Little Starters baby doll, books
In Owen’s basket (similar here): truck plate, astronaut dog shirt, sidewalk chalk, chocolate, snacks, and lots of books
He absolutely loves the Simply Balanced strawberry fruit snacks from Target. My mom sends them so we’re always stocked. I stuck one in his basket and he immediately took it over to his chair for a snack break.
The Easter egg hunt was his favorite part. We absolutely loved watching him scour every inch of the house looking for eggs and oh my goodness, the look of pure joy when he spotted one! I live for these expressions. This is what parenting is all about. It makes all the bad and frustrating moments disappear.
When I was a kid, the Easter Bunny always taped a chocolate egg over our noses in a picture so I wasn’t all that surprised when I found an egg taped to Owen and Della’s noses. I’m so glad Bunny is continuing that tradition with our kids! Owen thought it was hilarious when he noticed it.
Owen woke us all up at 4:30 that morning (don’t ask why, it’s a long story). These two weren’t big fans of getting up so early. And yeah…that mustasche…yuck. I am so glad April is soon. I can’t handle the stache.
My little chocoholic (so proud) devoured an entire chocolate bunny for breakfast.
Alex left for a week long TDY to Alaska the next day. It was my first time solo with the two kids and man, what a week. It was exhausting. Owen is really struggling with sleep (what’s new?) and since we’ve switched him to his toddler bed (he climbed out of his crib) bed time has been a battle trying to get him to stay in bed and not completely lose his youknowwhat about going to sleep. Sometimes if he’s tired enough he’ll fall asleep while I’m reading books to him and I’m so thankful for those nights. Otherwise he’s kicking and screaming.
I think he’s afraid to fall asleep maybe because every night he wakes up at least once with a night terror. If you don’t know what a night terror is…be grateful and if you’re curious, Google them. If you do know what they are and/or your child has them, you have my condolences. They’re bloody awful. Between Owen’s night terrors and Della’s frequent night feedings, I averaged 3 hours of sleep every night and that’s only if I was able to be in bed by 8:30 pm every night. I can’t remember the last time I washed my hair…Monday night, maybe? Dry shampoo is no longer doing the trick. But we pushed through the exhaustion (thanks to wine, coffee and bribery) and we all made it out alive. And honestly, we had some pretty good times this week, just the three of us. I love my little tribe.
Owen is at the age where out-of-sight-out-of-mind isn’t as much of a thing anymore so he noticed that his dad is gone. Thanks to long work hours, Owen doesn’t see Alex much during the week so he’s a little used to that but he catches him at dinner or breakfast sometimes. He kept telling me during the week that “dad is in Awaska” and lately it’s been “I want dad.” He missed him so much. Hopefully Alex will walk through the door tonight before bedtime so Owen can see him (Alex has to work tomorrow).
The three of us celebrated Easter Sunday by going to mass and brunch with friends this morning donning our Easter Sunday best. My little hipster dresses himself and I’m completely jealous how well he rocks skinny jeans. It’s not fair.
And now we’re anxiously passing the time until Alex walks through the door. I thought this week felt like a year but this day has felt like a century…
Be sure to check the Facebook page for details about a giveaway I’m hosting! Now, go enjoy this beautiful holiday weekend with your family and don’t forget the reason we celebrate!

Emily, you weren't the only one excited for Mustache March to be over haha thank you for your posts. I'm the new wife of a viper pilot and am so thankful to know someone else out there has the same blessings and frustrations as myself. Any advice for LDRs? We will be in one very soon when he goes to Korea and I stay state side. Thanks again for errthing
