This is my third time around with this holiday and I have to say that now that I have two kids, it’s really just like any other day. I got up at 4:30 to my two year old alarm clock, unloaded the dishwasher, did some laundry, served breakfast, put Della down for a nap, gave Owen a bath and put him down for a nap…and drank all the coffee.
We moms make jokes all the time about how hard this “job” is. I think it is too easy to look at our blessings and ourselves too narrowly. We see the life we think we need to be happy, to live in the proverbial perfect world. But God has a clearer vision for us if we trust Him.
Motherhood is tough. It’s poopy, snotty, drooly, there’s spit up, lots of loud noises, screaming and crying, there’s tantrums, and bumps and bruises to kiss. The house is never clean, the laundry is always piled high, and I’m lucky if we’re having anything other than take out for dinner. “Oh yay, you made tacos! Again.”
I cling to those moments. He gave me my mom to be my role model in this whole motherhood gig and I strive every day to be as strong, beautiful, wise, gentle, and classy as she is.
It’s blurry, but this has always been one of my favorite photos of my mom and I. She was always the one behind the camera and photos of us from my childhood are rare. |
It’s no secret that I love baby girl things so I can’t talk about baby accessories without telling you about Freshly Picked moccasins! I doubt many of you need an introduction to these moccs but in case you’re not familiar with the brand, I assure you, you’re going to become obsessed. I am a huge fan of Susan Petersen, creator and founder of Freshly Picked. If you know me, you understand my deep love for supporting handmade businesses. They are hand made in the USA and 100% genuine leather (I just love the way they smell). When Della was only a few weeks old I treated her (okay, me) to her first pair of Platinum moccs and fell in love before she’d even grown into them.
Freshly Picked sent me (well, Della) a pair of the blush pink to try out and we loved them so much I have since bought more.
They are incredibly well made, and thanks to the elastic opening, they’re easy to slip on, but still STAY on! That’s a huge plus. I love not having to worry about shoes falling off Della’s feet. And let’s be real, they’re just the cutest things ever. I’m not exaggerating when I say I want a pair in every color.
