I am 38 weeks pregnant and have been going to the doctor weekly…for no particular reason. I’m not really sure why they have me come back weekly, I’m feeling awesome and baby is doing great. I basically just sit and wait for 20+ minutes while trying to keep Della from licking the floor for someone to tell me I’m doing great. No one has mentioned the i-word (induction) fortunately and I’m grateful my doctors are willing to work with me and my preferences for the birth. I am very excited to meet this little one, but I’m hopeful that he/she will stay put for a while, even maybe a few days past the due date. Regardless, since baby will be here soon, I finally packed our hospital bags. I definitely feel like the process was a lot easier the third time around…I feel like I’m prepared without over-packing.
For mama:
- a great big bag
- 2 nursing tanks
- 1 nursing bra
- cheap sports bra (for delivery)
- 1 pair stretchy pants/leggings to wear home
- robe
- nursing night gown (if you chose not to wear the hospital ones)
- Button up shirt to wear over nursing tank to go home
- cozy cardigan
- disposable underwear + pads (generally the hospital ones suffice)
- cleansing bottle
- nursing pads
- phone charger (tip: buy an extra long one!!)
- camera
- laptop & charger
- toiletries – I purchased travel size or extras of everything so I don’t need to throw things in last minute
- for clean and effortless skin care: nourishing cream cleanser, rejuvenating day cream and rejuvenating eye cream
- for quick make up: dew skin tinted moisturizing coverage, powder blush duo in bloom/tulip, volumizing mascara, and lip sheer in twig
- nursing cream
- nursing pillow
- nursing cover – nice to have if you have visitors
- slippers
For baby:
- go home outfit – I just do a simple sleeper to keep babe comfy
- bonnet
- pink bow (for girl) – one to match Della’s from this shop or this one
- swaddle blanket (I also love these)
- burp cloths (check out Witts End Design if you want something cute!)
- hand mitts
- car seat
- baby nail clippers/file
- 3-4 newborn diapers
- face wipes
- cute photo prop to announce baby (letter board or name tag)
This week I’m putting together big brother and big sister bags for Owen and Della. They will be “from” the new baby and have a few little things that I think they’ll love. I’m going to let Owen and Della pick out a little something to give to baby when they meet him or her too. There’s no right answer to what the particular item is, just a little something will do. For example, I got this book for Della to read to the baby, I think it will really encourage bonding.
My mom gets here TOMORROW (!!!) and then I’ll really focus on spending some one-on-one time with Owen and Della, squeezing in a couple date nights with Alex, and getting some me-time. I plan to get my eyebrows done, manicure/pedicure, a massage…things that will be challenging once baby arrives and things that will help me feel my best before baby comes. I’ve also been cleaning the house weekly (top to bottom) because the thought of coming home to a messy house can feel overwhelming. It’s nice to come home to a clean house and clean sheets.
