Guys, I have to brag. This year, I had TWO men to be my Valentine. :) I'm pretty partial to both of them and they can melt my heart equally in their own sweet ways. It has been a while since I last shared a recipe on the blog. Truth is, I hadn't spent much time in the kitchen but now that life with Owen is getting easier, I have gotten back into my ways. The Viper Pilot is really busy these days (he's in an upgrade course right now but it makes no difference, he's a pilot, he is always ... View the Post
Chile Cheese Casserole with Quinoa Pasta
Let's talk about how adorable my dog is. She's the cutest thing ever. I know. A while back I promised you a recipe. I move a little slower these days, sorry. It's hot and I'm lazy. Confession: for the past 102 days, I've been living off of buttered noodles. Why? Because it's easy. I cook up a whole package of noodles on Monday and it lasts me the entire week. It's a bad habit, I guess. One evening I decided to change things up a bit. I don't do the gluten free bizniz but I am ... View the Post
Thoughts on a meat-free pregnancy | recipe: Lentil Loaf
During my first trimester, meat and I were not pals. The thought, the smell, the sight of beef, chicken, pork...any kind of animal product was repulsive. While the queasiness has greatly subsided in the second trimester, the food aversions have not. I still can't bring myself around to the idea of eating meat again. (The Viper Pilot is worried about this, in addition to my significant increased sensitivity to spicy foods -- he's really hoping I bounce back...I'm sure I will.) Vegetarians can ... View the Post
Cheesy Pasta with Broccoli
She thought she got away with out the public humiliation. She was so wrong. Last Friday was my eldest and wisest sister's birthday. It was a pretty significant one, too. It ended in a 0. This is the sister I could get away with annoying because I was the baby and I didn't know any better, the one who picked me up after I fell down the stairs (while laughing) and taught me to play checkers, taught me how to swim, and how to be a Hollywood superstar princess. HAPPY {belated} BIRTHDAY ... View the Post
Spring Green Lemon & Basil Pasta
Frohe Tag der Arbeit aus Deutschland! They take May Day very seriously here. The folks in town stayed up all night defending their maibaum (May tree), a pole depicting all the of trades in the town, from other villagers who might try to cut it down. In short, it's a bunch of drunk men sitting around the maibaum all night long. This is our village's maibaum, which is up year-round. They celebrate Tag der Arbeit (Labor Day) today and everyone has the day off. Well, except us Americans. Last ... View the Post
{Lightened Up} Broccoli-Cheese Soup
The good news is, we now have heat in our house. (HOORAY!) The bad news is, we still haven't seen a sign of spring. My wildflowers in the garden are defiant and trying to bloom anyway, but with the temps in the 30s still, I feel really bad for them. I think I know someone else who is ready for spring -- her hair is getting SO long. She really needs a haircut, but with it being so chilly outside, I'm afraid she'll freeze. All well. At least I can still buy myself some spring until Mother ... View the Post
