"Ice-resistant coatings require investigating droplet impact on dry surfaces and wet films, including microscopic effects such as droplet splashing. To investigate droplet impacts, a volume of fluid (VOF) flow solver was used for droplets impacting dry and wetted hydrophobic and superhydrophobic surfaces, focusing on meso-scale simulations." Four years ago, I was writing stuff like that for my thesis paper earning my master's degree in aerospace engineering. I drank coffee ... View the Post
Reader Request: Career? What career?
It's been four years since this day. This was the day he graduated from USAFA. Four years ago, he stood on a stage in front of the American flag and was sworn in as the nation's newest 2nd Lieutenant. Four years later, he was sworn in as the nation's newest Captain while flying an F-16 somewhere over the desert, fighting a war. I've said before that this lifestyle of ours isn't all cookies and cake...and it isn't, but sometimes it is. My husband is a stud. :) A lot has happened ... View the Post
Mission Complete!
I am so very sorry for the lack of blog posts. I had to kind of prioritize my life for a week or two and unfortunately, blogging was not at the top. However, I did defend my thesis...SUCCESSFULLY. It went better than I could have ever imagined, actually. I passed and my paper is turned in. Of course, there will be revisions, but that's the easy part. It feels SO good to be mission complete. Grad school was a fun ride but wow...lots of work. I have my masters of science in aerospace engineering ... View the Post
Tunnel Vision
1. Finish analyzing data 2. Write thesis paper 3. Read, reread, and have the Viper Pilot (graciously) proof read (all 65 pages) <--he's a superstar 4. Submit thesis paper 5. Prepare thesis defense presentation (I'm halfway done with this...) 6. Thesis defense rehearsal (tomorrow afternoon) 7. Thesis defense (Thursday morning) 8. Lesson plan and journal (due Friday) Immediately after my defense, I hop in the car with Elmer Fudd and drive to Texas. The Viper Pilot won't even be there ... View the Post
This is a first.
I do believe life is sometimes crazy on purpose to remind us that we do have an insane person in our minds and sometimes it is necessary for the insane version of us to make an appearance. This helps us keep tabs on it and forces us to remain sane during the normal times in our lives. What in the what?! That didn't even make sense. Which indicates that at this very moment, I am insane. My life is out of control crazy right now. I have been pushing through 14 hour work days, 7 days a week with ... View the Post
They call me Ms. B…
Whew. What a whirlwind of a week. I am doing an intro to aerodynamics course with my students (so basically, I'm bringing them over to the dark side that is aerospace engineering) but they're really getting into it, so I'm pretty proud. Today's lesson was all about simplified motion. The classroom teacher, Mr. D, took some pictures of me teaching today. Explaining how friction works. Haha, this was supposed to be a demonstration about lift on an aircraft wing. I don't remember it being ... View the Post
