I think this blog needs to be renamed to "What Alex and Emily Ate for Dinner Last Night" because that seems to be what I post about most...(Hey, that rhymed! I'm a poet and I didn't know it.) When I first moved to Mississippi, I realized that hot weather = loss of appetite. For a while I survived on fruit and sweet tea. But here's a secret about me, I love food. Oh, you already knew that, huh? I had to come up with new ways to love food in the hot summertime. BBQ is Mississippi's middle name. ... View the Post
Tree Loggers of MS
Hi, how was your weekend? Saturday was my nephew, Jack's first birthday! Hard to believe how fast time flies. As I mentioned earlier, we went to Smithville on Saturday to help with the clean-up effort. That town is still a blessed mess and there is a lot of work to do. The only problem is, the government got involved and so, as you can imagine, nothing is getting done. We helped the city clean up a community center and then they turned us away because the FEMA, MEMA, and the Army Corps of ... View the Post
when mother nature strikes back
My thoughts, prayers and heart are with those affected by the horrible storms and tornadoes that swept across the south yesterday. Especially those in Smithville, MS and Tuscaloosa, AL. This video is of the EF4 tornado that wiped out Tuscaloosa yesterday. You can see the strip mall where I shop at Ann Taylor Loft and get my beloved Starbucks (right next door to Game Stop) get completely flattened. It just barely missed Target (located on the other side of Belk and the old mall). It's so hard to ... View the Post
Where’s the sunshine?
Hello. How are you? Mouse-o and I are having a lazy day here. Today is, well, was a study day. All that's left are 2 finals on Monday and I'm feeling pretty confident so I'm going to take the rest of the afternoon off from studying. I'm munching on some baby carrots and chipotle hummus and fresh fruit (kiwis, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, n grapes), snuggling with Elmer and halfway watching the Ellen DeGeneres show. Oh, and we're watching it rain. STILL. You may notice ... View the Post
This and that.
Welcome to your Wednesday!! That means the day after tomorrow is Friday. Sweet. My second home. My Wednesday has me here at the HPC^2 (High Performance Computing Collaboratory) bright and early running ten or so simulations that I expect to take 2-5 hours...each. And I need them done by Friday. pro-cras-ti-na-tion: noun, /prəˌkrastəˈnāSHən/, /prō-/, the act of procrastinating; putting off or delaying or deferring an action to a later time. source The ... She don’t love me, she love my automobile.
Hey, howdy, hey. Back as promised. Alex and I took my parents to the Tupelo Automobile Museum their last day in good ol' Mississippi. It's a place we've driven by tons of times and always threatened to stop. That particular weekend they had a Mustang exhibit and if you know my dad, you know how much he loves Mustangs, so we had to go! It was really quite fun. They had some really rare cars from the "olden days" and they progressed through time up to today's cars. This one I think looked ... View the Post
