FINALLY the day came to move me to Texas. It seemed like the day would never arrive. I have spent days of my life on I-10 between MS and TX. I’m an official resident of this state, so it is about dang time to move here.
The Viper Pilot’s madre stayed at our TX house with the dogs and the Viper Pilot and I hooked up the trailer and headed back to Mississippi one last time. Sigh. I was just getting used to the dry heat and lack of humidity. Dang.
We made it all the way to Houston…and then we found a flat tire on the trailer at the gas station. Fortunately, the Viper Pilot is a handy man so it wasn’t a big deal. Since the jack was all the way at the front of the truck bed (what a pain), he backed the trailer up on the curb in a Jack in the Box parking lot to change the tire. Smart guy. I picked a keeper.
Side note: even though the food at Jack in the Box is iffy (in my opinion), they offer a 50% mil discount, making the food slightly less iffy.
After a stop for the night in Lafayette, LA and a quick fix of previously mentioned flat tire, we made it back to Mississippi just in time for the humid weather to greet us with a smack in the face. Oof. 86 degrees felt like 106. Yuck.
The Viper Pilot did most of the packing up of the house while I ran around like a chicken with its head cut off trying to tie up loose ends at Mississippi State. I kind of had a lot to do to get finished up completely with grad school. I have to admit when I submitted my paper for publishing, I did a happy dance. In front of the library, where everyone could see me. Heck yes. When I wasn’t over on campus, I was packing up the house. I managed to get all my shoes into three plastic tubs…that’s really good for me…I only have a few pairs of shoes.
When we got everything packed up, we had only the George Foreman and the oven so we grilled brats and made sweet potato fries with my awesome chipotle dipping sauce. We made some margs and enjoyed a nice fancy dinner. Or, well something like that. The internet had not quite been cut yet, so we watched Burn Notice on Netflix on the laptop. We also slept on an air mattress that night. PCSing (moving) stinks. But because we did a DTY move (do it yourself), we’re actually going to make money so it’s not really so bad. {The AF pays us to move our stuff since we did’t have them do it for us.} Plus, we don’t have to deal with the movers losing, breaking, or stealing our things. But I do get to look forward to movers when we PCS to Germany…we don’t own a boat, so there is not way that one is going to be a DTY.
The Viper Pilot packed trailer to perfection (he’s really good at that) and I don’t think we could have fit one more pillow in there. We could have used one more day to finish up the little things (we are the kind of renters who CLEAN the house before they move out) but it was sparkling when we left, nonetheless. The new tenants will appreciate that.
It is a cute picture, but I think we look as exhausted as we felt! |
Since I wasn’t pleased with the pictures, I used my Google Sky Map and got a screen shot of the eclipse…it counts, right? (By the way, if you don’t have that app already, get it…it’s awesome.)
