Three things I have learned about Germany in the past week:
1) The roads in the little villages really are that narrow.
2) Elle LOVES it here. The weather, and leaping and bounding through the fields. We took her for a short walk (we are low on energy so we didn’t go far) and she had a blast. She acted like she did when we took her back to Colorado.
3) Spangdahlem is the best base we have ever been assigned to.
We had our first First Friday with the squadron last night. It was Oktoberfest themed, and everyone wore lederhosens and dirndls. There were “Olympic events.” I won’t elaborate on such drinks, but if you’ve seen the movie Beerfest, you get it. The squadron has a Brewers’ Guild and they had a competition. There were 16 beers brewed by guys in the squadron. There was a LOT of beer.
Since we don’t have our lederhosen and dirndl yet, we did the best we could with cheesy t-shirts from the BX. We are planning a shopping trip to make such purchases in the near future, though.
Our friends, Stephen and Helen, wore their cheesy t-shirts, too. Helen wore one to match Stephen so people could tell us apart. Team Red and Team Yellow.
Stephen’s shirt reads: “Instant German, Just add beer” Alex’s shirt reads: “Property of German drinking team” |
We already love our squadron. We met so many people last night and everyone is AWESOME. The next few years are going to be amazing!!
We are going out to dinner in Wittlich tonight with Stephen, Helen and their baby to have dinner and have our first true German dining experience! We are meeting up with some of our new friends for drinks later. It should be another fun evening.
Tschüss!
