We moved into our apartment on the day of Owen’s 2nd birthday. He got a house and all of his things back for his birthday. He’s a lucky boy, you might say. But it was a pretty intense day. The little Korean movers were speedy fast. They ran everywhere they went and could unpack things faster than I could figure out which room I wanted it in.
Unfortunately, the snowy weather prevented the painters from coming on the day they originally planned so we were set back a day. At the time it seemed like a big deal because we were so anxious to start unpacking but looking back from where we are now with the moving in process, it didn’t really matter. Unpacking a house with a toddler when you’re 9 months pregnant and suffering from (what has turned into a 2 week long) cold is a slow and painful process, period dot. So that Saturday was spent organizing, reorganizing, and rereorganizing the kitchen. Kitchens stress me. We move a lot and one of my LEAST favorite parts is unpacking the kitchen. It’s even worse when I’m in nesting mode.
The painters showed up on Sunday and just like the movers, they were speedy little Koreans who got everything done in one day. We are so glad we made the decision to paint (even if the whole house is now four different shades of gray). The walls, ceiling, trim, and crown molding were all the same flat pasty almond color when we moved in and it felt like a prison. If we have to live here for at least two years, we figured a little something on the walls to add contrast would make it more homey.
