I had to escape the heat, so I hopped in the car, drove for 12 hours and ended up in IOWA. I went home for a 10 day visit. My 8-year-old twin niece and nephew also came to stay with my parents, so I got to spend a lot of time with them.
One of the first things we did was go to the Berry Patch Farm. I went to preschool there (they are just a farm now) so it was great to see my teachers and the farm! My mom, Henry, Maddie and I picked 17 pounds of delicious blueberries!
We also spent a day at my grandparents’ farm near Webster City. The kids had a lot of fun running around outside, despite the heat. My grandma has a beautiful garden and I couldn’t help but snap a few pictures of some gorgeous color!
A trip to Reiman Gardens at Iowa State University is always fun, especially when they are currently hosting the WORLD LARGEST GNOME! This thing was huge!!
It wouldn’t be an Iowa…um, vacation…without Adventureland!! My sister, Alison and her hubby, Keith, and their two boys, Blake (8) and Cale (5) came down to enjoy a toasty day at the amusement park. I’m not a very fun person and I don’t like rides but I had fun holding purses, water bottles, and taking pictures of everyone. But I should mention that I DID ride the ferris wheel, the Underground roller coaster and the bumper cars. Oh! AND since I just love large gatherings of sweaty, stinky people and commercialization so much, I even stood in line for 1 HOUR for the Raging River. (Great ride, but the line…not so great.) Alex forced me to ride every ride there once and I’ve just never felt quite the same way since. (That includes the Space Shot, people, the Space Shot.) Still, we had some good, quality time with the 3-ring Cirque de Burtnett. I have the world’s greatest family.
Alison has a maltipoo, Lucy, who just so happens to be the same age as our dog, Elle. It was so fun getting them together. Alex (I don’t need to say that he is Elle’s other person) couldn’t pick Elle out in this line up. He actually thought Lucy was Elle. Poor dog, at least she has me.
It was an awesome trip! I had so much fun with my family and got to catch up with some great friends while I was home, too! It wouldn’t be a trip to Iowa without some of that awesome Iowa sweet corn that we all know and love so much! YUM. Needless to say, I brought back a ton.
On that note, I think it’s time for dinner…corn, of course!
So…
Have a great day and y’all come back now!!
