So. We last left you with the honeymoon pictures. Well, since I’ve been so good about blogging (not), I suppose it is about time to update you on the more recent events. Phoenix. Which is where we have been for the past 3 weeks. Here’s an update on what we’ve been up to in the A-zona.
Lounging in our sweet little TLF. We are living on base so they gave us a little house to stay in — which beats the heckles out of a hotel room for 3 weeks. Plus, it has a full kitchen which makes me a happy girl. I’ve been making dinner for the boys during the week.
Then everyone goes out in the “backyard” to throw rocks and sweat. Outdoors in Phoenix is like being in a hairdryer. It’s HOT and DRY. I actually really like it, but everyone else thinks it is too hot. I love the sun and I love heat so it doesn’t bother me. But you could easily cook an egg on the pavement and I have melted at least two pairs of shoes, so maybe it is a bit excessive.
The Viper Pilot has been busy with training and I have spent my days cooking dinner, working out, doing a little shopping and lots of reading while laying in the sun by the pool. Of course, a dip in the water to cool off every now and then is necessary when it is 117 degrees outside. (That’s not an exaggeration…it really is that hot.) We’ve been seeing temps around 106-117 the past few days.
We took a little day trip to the Grand Canyon. Which turned out to be a giant tourist trap, but very cool nevertheless. It is absolutely impossible to capture the beauty in pictures, but I sure did try. It is properly named as it is very grand, indeed.
I spy with my little eye the Viper Pilot living on the edge. |
I on the other hand, prefer to not live on the edge… |

Back in Phoenix, we experienced our first haboob. That’s right, haboob. We weren’t actually affected by it, but we could see the clouds. A haboob is an extremely intense sandstorm. It can be very dangerous if you end up caught in one. Fortunately for us, we could only see it from our house.
We also got in a little all-American fun by taking in a baseball game. The Arizona Diamondbacks were playing the Chicago Cubs at Chase Field. The D-backs won! Root, root, root for the home team, right?
F-14 pilot…Maverick, is that you? |
When we purchase our private jet, this will be the interior. |
F-4 as a Thunderbird |
They made the larger paper airplane in the world and flew it. It was airborne for about 4 seconds before it crashed. |
Airplanes in the desert heat. |
Super Guppy — they used it to transport pieces of the Saturn V. Yes, it really does fly! |
B-36 |
T-38…he was feeling a tad nostalgic. |
Davis-Monthan AFB is home to the boneyard where they keep “excess military and government aircraft” but in my opinion, it’s a very depressing place where they keep poor jets that have been rejected. They never stood a chance. There were ROWS of F-16s among several other aircraft. It went on and on and on…
