The alarm went off this morning at way-too-early-o’clock. I didn’t know what all the noise was about, I just knew it needed to stop. Do you ever forget what your alarm clock sounds like when you’re on vacation?
After the first few hours at work, my sanity was on the verge of spontaneous combustion. There was so much to get caught up on and my to-do list was only getting longer. Thank goodness it’s already Tuesday. Um, and thank goodness for chocolate.
I was so pumped to start working out again now that my foot feels better. Stress fractures are not fun, for the record. The stress of the day was over and I was ready to sweat.
But I had to take care of a sick pup instead.
Someone had too much feasting and festivity.
Actually, I am a little worried about her. She got into the ham and let’s just say things aren’t flowing like they should. The Viper Pilot diagnosed her with a “hamover.” We will probably be visiting the doggy doc tomorrow (who I’m desperately hoping speaks English). Prayers for Elmer, bitte.
We celebrated Thanksgiving on Sunday. I spent the entire afternoon and evening doing my thing in the kitchen while the Viper Pilot cleaned the basement (everything was still in their containers in a pile right where the movers left them the day we moved in). There were no kitchen fires and the dinner, in my opinion, looked beautiful. The basement looks mighty fine too, now that we can see it.
Our first Thanksgiving “Mr. and Mrs.” style was a huge success. All that time in the kitchen was so worth it. I made a few classics, but tried green bean casserole from scratch — my goal was to not use a can opener for that dish — and it turned out to be the bomb-diggity. Stay tuned for the recipe in the holiday dinner round up in the next few days/weeks/whenever I get around to writing it.
The highlight of all the cooking was finding a heart-shaped red potato. I’ve seen pictures of frosted flakes in the shape of California or potato chips that resemble Jay Leno on the internet…I always assumed they were fake. Ehhhh – wrong. This is totally the real deal. I should have sold it on eBay…instead I smashed it.
After dinner and pie, us and our food comas chilled on the couch watching our newest TV on DVD addiction, Chuck. Boy, oh boy, what a great show.
The morning after A & E’s Thanksgiving Extravaganza, we decorated the house for Christmas. I know I marvel over our tree every year, but this time the tree looks exceptional because it’s in the most beautiful house we’ve ever lived in. Hands down. Guys, this house is absolutely G-O-R-geous decorated for Christmas. Of course I’m biased!
I am so ready for snow and Santa and baby Jesus.
I didn’t have any gift tags so I used sticky notes. <– Classy. |
The spiky thing next to the tree is my new-to-me wine bottle rack. We have to save our wine bottles so that we can use them when we make our own wine next summer and this is my chic solution. I’m going to put lights in it once we get it full of bottles and it will also be a “Christmas tree.” I nabbed it from a friend who bought it in Tongeren. It’s rusty and very antique-y. There is something very similar at Pottery Barn going for $399 + shipping. I paid less than 5% of that for mine. I win! {happy dance}
I have serious dreams about hanging it from a vaulted ceiling as a chandelier in our forever home…in the meantime, it works great for its intended purpose.
The Viper Pilot and I are dining on leftovers tonight. Just as you guys are probably all finishing up the last few crumbs from your Thanksgiving extravaganza, we are just getting started…
PROST!
