Thank you all for the hugs, kind words, prayers, and thoughts. My grandpa was a great man and will be so dearly missed by many. I can’t tell you how much that all meant to me. It’s been tough being away from my family during this time but I’ve found comfort in the love surrounding me. I know he’s looking out for me, though. I was driving home yesterday in the pouring rain after a rough visit to the vet (Elle had a tick which caused a skin infection). Owen was tired and crying, and I was having to hold Elle to keep her from scratching at the infected area. This was all about the time that grandpa’s funeral was occurring back in the states. There was suddenly a clearing in the sky, the sun shone brightly, and a rainbow appeared – it was still raining, too. I smiled and said hi to my grandpa. 🙂
Back to my mom’s visit…
After we got back from Paris, we spent the day in Bernkastel-Keus. Our legs were so sore from seeing Paris in two days, so it felt nice to slow down for a change of pace. My mom has been here before (for the Christmas market right after Owen was born) but never during tourist season when it’s sunny and warm.
I digress. Where was I? Oh, right. The place was packed with people. We grabbed some pastries, found a brat stand, and had a picnic by the river.
Owen’s face. He has the best expressions. |
I snuck in a picture of this adorable couple sitting on a bench watching the world pass them by. Don’t tell me you don’t dream of being them someday…
We wandered around window shopping and people watching. We decided my mom needed to experience a true Mosel river wine tasting. There are a million wineries in Bernkastel, but we wanted one without all the hype and glam, where all the locals go – they tend to have the best wine. A sign along one of the back streets declared there was a wine cellar down an adorable alley.
He really got to know her during her time here. She could really make him smile!
I love our little village. I love Germany. |
Photo credit goes to my mama, I love this picture! He was fascinated by the flowers. |
Cue Sting song: “As we walk in fields of gold…”
Iowa peeps, you’ll appreciate this.
